The scheme was introduced by the government of Tamil Nadu, in order to encourage widow remarriage and rehabilitate widows. The main objective of this scheme is to encourage the financial growth of the widows.

The name of the Widow Remarriage Assistance Scheme is “Dr. Dharmambal Ammaiyar Ninaivu Widow Remarriage Assistance Scheme”.
This assistance is provided for widow who wish for remarriage. The assistance is provided in the form of two schemes.
a) Scheme–I Rs.25,000/- (Rs.10,000/- as National Savings Certificate and Rs.15,000/- by Cash) + 8 grams gold coin ( 1 sovereign ) of 22 carat will be given for making ‘Thirumangalyam’.
b) Scheme-II Rs.50,000/- (Rs.20,000/- as National Savings Certificate and Rs.30,000/- Cash) + 8 grams gold coin ( 1 sovereign ) of 22 carat will be given for making ‘Thirumangalyam’.

The eligibility criteria for those who opt for this assistance under scheme-I will be as follows:
- The age of widow should not be less than 20 years.
- The age of the bridegroom should not exceed 40 years.
- No limit for income.
- No educational qualification is needed.
The eligibility criteria for those who opt for this assistance under scheme-II will be as follows:
- The age of widow should not be less than 20 years
- The age of the bridegroom should not exceed 40 years.
- No limit for income.
- The bride should be a Degree or Diploma Holder from Government approved colleges.

- First husband’s death certificate and widow certificate from Tahsildar
- Remarriage photos
- Age proof of the couple (Bride & Bridegroom separately)
- Certificate to prove first marriage of the bridegroom from Tahsildar or from MLA

- Copy of Degree / Diploma certificate (For those who apply for the claim under Scheme -II)
