Masaniamman is the diety, and she is in lying position with a baby at her feet. The most famous ritual is the Chilli Paste that is hand ground by the devotees using a stone grinder and offered to the deity. This custom is symbolic that the mother happily takes all the trouble and bitterness (represented by red chillies) on to her and bless the devotees with good.
